i seriously hate airlines. they are so stupid. they are definitely on our bad list right now... not that they were off of it before. anyway, after a huge fiasco with this brat from delta about changing my flight home from nyc from tuesday afternoon to monday afternoon, we finally get booked/confirmed on the monday afternoon flight. yes, this is after paying that idiotic $75 change fee. SO- adam and i are a little confused on monday in the jfk airport when we get a boarding card that says "seat request card." "does this mean i'm on standby??" i ask furiously. "NO- just give me a minute," says the delta employee. "OK." well, 3:35pm comes and goes, the door shuts and we have not boarded! basically the flight just left without us, and left several angry customers in our same situation demanding some attention. they had overbooked the flight and rather than let people know that they would need to be involuntarily bumped (is this even legal??), the plane just left! so we BARELY get on the 4:30pm flight thanks to some supervisor named taj. we had to hassle taj for our $100 vouchers too...which hardly makes up for this nonsense. especially since i was already irked about having to pay $75 the day before to get moved to a flight i shouldn't have been put on in the first place. i wouldn't have PAID to change my flight if i wasn't even going to get on. i am still planning on calling delta to get that money back. am i out of line here?
anyway, all of this aside, looks like the joke is on me because i am a moron. for MONTHS we've known (thought) that adam's friend's wedding in FL was this weekend...meaning he'd barely get back from maine and have to hop on another plane wed. night to get to FL in time. so tuesday night, the day before he's going to leave, adam randomly calls travis (the groom) to tell him something about the upcoming wedding, to which travis says, "wait.. you mean next weekend, right?" long story short- we had misread the invitation all these months and the wedding is NEXT weekend! yes, this means another fight with delta. we had already bought some outrageously priced ticket just days before so yep, you guessed it, we had missed out on the "24 hr risk free cancellation." needless to say i am still trying to find a ticket that won't require us to pay more and will just let us use the credit for the ticket he didn't use on wednesday. this will also require a $75 change fee, don't you worry.
i get that airlines have to have rules but it's just annoying when ALL they do is try and make it impossible to EVER change your mind. heaven forbid you have an emergency... or maybe you just want to go home a day early! is that too much to ask? even though it's a rough ride with lots of layovers... i'm starting to like southwest the best. you can change whenever you want, for whatever reason you want. and if you don't use the ticket you just have southwest credit for whenever. no stupid change fees. ok thank you very much, i'm done. i'll post some pics from our trip soon. i'm at work and don't have any.

Abbie, Southwest is totally the best airline, that I have found at least. For the most part they have direct flights (maybe not to FL) and they have NO fees, like you had said. I have already earned a few free tickets because I fly Southwest most often. Traveling just isn't fun, the fun begins when you get to your destination!! Good luck!
Yes, it's no fun to fly & to pay that stupid change fee. I've had to do that a few times on Delta. I haven't, however heard of them shutting the doors and not explain the flight is over-booked or ask for volunteers to stay behind till the next flight and get a free flying voucher. My favorites are SouthWest & Jetblue. You get to watch any channel of tv you want on Jetblue & they have GREAT snacks :) Can't wait to see photos from the trip! xoxo
I am so sorry. I hate flying more than anything, also. They treat you like cattle instead of human. I agree, I have seriously thought about driving everywhere and never flying again!
